“I consider my work paintings created through collage, rather than collage in the traditional sense.”
Angélique Bourgoin
Meet the Artist
Angélique grew up on the shores of a lake in a small Acadian village at the northernmost tip of Maine. Surrounded by nature, she developed a deep connection to the landscape from an early age. Sunsets over the potato fields and the calls of loons were part of her everyday life.
A naturally quiet child and highly sensitive to the world around her, she was drawn to the arts from an early age. She explored dance, music, writing, reading, drawing, painting, and theatre. When she wasn't creating, she spent much of her time outdoors.
A self-taught artist, Angélique attributes her artistic abilities to the hidden talent of her parents. She remembers her father's highly detailed figurative drawings and her mother's singing voice.
After completing her university studies, she moved to Quebec. Her professional path has included work in education and translation, but her artistic practice reclaimed an important part of her life during the pandemic, sparked by a birthday gift: a small watercolor set.
During that period, she created small works on paper every day and discovered abstract art for the first time. That discovery marked a significant turning point in her artistic journey.
Since then, she has maintained a consistent studio practice. She continues to create from her home studio.
